Charming, Authentic Bistro
“Located steps away from the La Jolla Shores Beach, Voulez Vous Bistro and Boulangerie opened in September. One doesn’t expect a French bakery and authentic French cuisine among the surf shops, kayak shops, beach goers and scuba divers. The prices are reasonable and the food is delectable.
The secret is that the bistro is the creation of the Malécot family – Christian and Michel. Christian Malécot, a 22-year-old business graduate of University of San Diego, is heading the restaurant assisted by his father, Michel, who has run several restaurants and a large catering business in La Jolla and Pacific Beach for 33 years. Michel’s restaurant, The French Gourmet in Pacific Beach, is renowned for its bakery and its French cuisine. Christian worked at The French Gourmet, during the summer, for eight years.
The Bistro is located in the space where Papalulu’s was (also close to Barbarella). The colorful tropical décor offers a warm welcome to those who enjoy a relaxed beach setting. The patio is filled with colorful umbrellas and surrounded by French Ploynesian-themed murals. Inside are the display cases for the bakery items and a few comfortable tables.
Voulez Vous prepares authentic French cuisine with a California touch and receives fresh-baked goods from The French Gourmet every day of the week.
The Boulangerie (French for bakery) offers croissants, sweet crêpes and pastries. A flaky, buttery spinach and cheese croissant with a cup of coffee makes for a heavenly start of the morning. Savory crêpes eggs Florentine and Omelettes are also available for breakfast. For lunch, a grilled chicken Panini with tomatoes, jalapeno jack cheese and basil aioli on a French Baguette will hit the spot.
The Bistro offers craft beer on tap and an expansive list of wine (personally selected by
Voulez Vous is a nice addition to La Jolla Shores whether you are interested in specialty coffees with croissants for breakfast, a festive Sunday brunch, a lunch on the sunny patio or a special dinner with French specialties and a great glass of wine.”
"Christian and Stephane, Now that the holiday is over and things are settling back to normalcy, I wanted to take a minute to thank you both for arranging our holiday event. You were so accommodating with our last minute planning and Stephane did a superb job servicing us during the event. I have been coming to your restaurant and refer people to you for years and definitely will continue to do so. Thank you again for everything."
"Last Sunday, Judy & I went for a long walk at La Jolla Shores Beach and decided to have lunch at Voulez Vous; I heard you had opened a bistro in town. We had a delightful lunch! I had the chicken Panini on your delicious French baguette, which by the way came so hot I had to wait a bit to eat it (it’s so rare that food is served hot). Judy had a lovely salad and cleaned her plate. In addition, the staff was very friendly and attentive. As you know, I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I will certainly be back and tell my friends. I wish you much success!"
Make it a delicious day!
